Maryland has approved ignition interlock providers for its program.
The companies listed below are approved by the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division to provide ignition interlock devices (IID), or in car breathalyzers. These providers may be contacted to find IID installation services in your area.
An ignition interlock device requires the driver of the vehicle to blow into the device and will measure the driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC). If the person’s BAC exceeds the a preset limit the car will not start.
The costs of installation, leasing of the device, as well as maintenance and calibration costs must be paid by the person in the program.
The procedures for participating in the Maryland Ignition Interlock Program are provided to eligible drivers by a Maryland District Court, the Office of Administrative Hearings, and the Medical Advisory Board.
